Whether you're new to Christ, been saved for years or don’t even know much about Christ at all, you’ve thought of giving up, throwing in the towel, walking away, maybe even running away. I mean, I am no mind reader but I am guessing that if you are reading this, you are a human. That means this is true of you and you’ve wanted to quit at some point. You’ve wanted to quit being an adult, a mamma, a wife, a daughter, an employee, and the list could go on forever. Life is tough sometimes, well if we’re being honest, it is hard a lot of the time.
Let’s be real for a minute. Adulthood is not what most of us thought it would be like. We thought we would be our own boss, no one would tell us what to do, we would have no one to answer to and life would just be "good". Then we wake up to that screaming baby in the middle of the night and get up to go to the job we have to have in order to eat all while having no sleep because of a baby who cried most of the night. We quickly realize that we do not have control of our life. We are at the mercy of something so tiny and small but demands so much of our time, energy and resources. We’re at the mercy of a boss or company that we must go to daily so that we can provide for this tiny human, and some days it just seems like way too much.
Lamentations 3:22-23 tells us that, “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning”. This is something that we must learn to apply to our life. If we can learn to start each day fresh we will find renewed strength and drive the we didn’t know we had. We can’t quit, we can’t throw in the towel. We must let God’s mercies become new every morning. So, how would that look in our life? Wake up to a new day. Forget the mistakes, the hurt, and the disappointments of yesterday. Don’t hold on to them. Don’t hold a grudge against those that hurt us or didn’t provide what we needed from them on yesterday. See, people will hurt us, disappoint us and let us down! But, I have great news!! God will NOT!! His mercies are new towards us every morning. When we wake up we have a new day with no thought for yesterday. We don’t run out of His mercy toward us. He never gets tired of us or wants a break from us. When we’ve done wrong or let Him down, he doesn’t hold that against us. No, He gives us another chance!! Now that is great mercy.
Maybe things have happened in your life to make you doubt people. You may have trouble trusting because people that you trusted have wronged you in unthinkable ways. Maybe you have trouble opening up because you don’t feel that you can trust those around you. Maybe you're afraid to get close to anyone because of things that happened in your life beyond your control. Life is scary and the people in our lives have such an impact on us and how we impact others. Are you afraid? Are you tired? Do you want to quit? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, you are not alone. We have all been there or are there now. These feelings don’t make us bad people but we can’t stay in this season!!! Deuteronomy 31: 8 says that we don’t have to be afraid or discouraged because God goes before us. He won’t leave you, He won’t abandon you, He won’t let you down.
Look up today. Take one more step. Trust God. Allow yourself to start over today. Accept that God is giving you a new day with new chances, opportunities and mercies. Then as you walk into the great big world around you, walk in confidence because you know that your God has already gone before you and will be with you in all you do. Stand on His Word. When you feel afraid, remind yourself that you don’t have to be because He will never leave you.
