Take a Step

Taking a step is pretty self-explanatory. Putting one foot in front of the other to get where we need to go, thats a step. I pray daily that God would order my steps toward Him and what He has for my life. I must admit that until now I have meant, my actual steps. I want God to daily place me in situations, with people who need Him. So, when I’ve prayed this prayer, in my mind, I want my feet to step into the path that He has for me. I still want that but I’ve been thinking of this on a more broad scale lately.

There is another definition of the word, step. It means a stage in a process. Or, an action in a series, taken for a particular purpose. Like when we read books that explain the steps to a better life or steps to lose weight. If we want to lose weight, the first step is to get rid of the junk food, right? I know this seems very elementary but it’s worth thinking on for a moment.

The process, “trust the process.” we’ve all heard that at some point in our life. To be honest, when I don’t know where or when something is going to happen, it is hard for my humanity to trust a process. It just seems like a vague answer or an excuse to make me wait! I don’t like the unknown and I don’t like to have to figure out what I’m supposed to be doing. I like clear details, instructions and expectations.

Psalm 37:23-24 says, The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand. The Lord directs the steps… What if this said “the process”. He truly delights in every detail of our lives.Yes, we will stumble; we will get tripped up at times. But, if we allow Him too, He is holding our hand through every step of the process. He isn’t just concerned with the end result. He is concerned about every tiny process it takes to get to the victory that He has promised us.

Every step He has us to go through is significant in our journey. They have meaning and they are teaching us something that we need to know. Life is full of “steps.”. Life is a process and there is purpose in your next step. For you it may seem scary to not see an end result. It certainly is scary to me. But Psalm 119:133 says, Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil. If we are grounded in His word and if our decisions line up with His word, then we won’t be overcome by evil. He is there, holding our hand every step of the way.

He doesn’t always show us a clear path to exactly where we are going. When were teaching our children, they can’t always understand why we have them to do certain things but as a parent we can see the end result and we know that what we are teaching them today will help them along the process of their life.God is trying to teach us some things that we may not understand but He knows the end result and where He is taking us. We have to put our trust in Him, get out of our own way and let Him guide us in every step of the process. We can’t speed up the process and when we try, that’s when we complicate our journey.

What if your current situation is just one more step in the process to your victory? Embrace this season, this situation, this trial and let God walk you through this beautiful process. The end result will be even greater and more beautiful than you ever imagined.
